Dettato Privacy Policy

Dettato is a voice-memo app built so that your recordings and notes stay on your phone. This page explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.
What Dettato collects
Nothing. Dettato has no account system, no analytics, no advertising SDK, no crash reporter, and no server of its own. We cannot see your memos, transcripts, or summaries.
Where your data lives
- Audio is saved as WAV files in the app's private storage on your device.
- Transcripts, titles, summaries, and action items are saved as files in the app's private storage on your device.
- Settings (language, engine preference, purchase status, and an optional API key you may enter) are stored in the app's private preferences on your device. These are excluded from Android cloud backup, so an API key you enter never leaves the phone.
Memos are excluded from Android cloud backup. They are included in device-to-device transfer when you set up a new phone. Deleting a memo removes its audio and text from the device. Uninstalling the app removes everything.
Transcription
Dettato uses the speech recognition built into your Android device. Which engine runs depends on your phone and on one setting:
- On-device only (the default): Dettato uses only the recognizer built into your phone. Audio is processed on the device and is not handed to any other service. If your language has no offline pack installed, the memo is saved as audio with no transcript rather than sending the audio elsewhere.
- On-device only turned off: when the on-device recognizer cannot run, Dettato passes the audio to your phone's system speech service (on most phones, Google's). That service is a separate app, it handles the audio under its own provider's terms, and it may use the network. Dettato asks it to work offline when it supports that, but cannot guarantee it.
In both cases, Dettato itself never sends your audio to any server operated by us. We have no server.
Summaries
- On-device AI: on supported phones, summaries run on the device through Android's on-device AI (Gemini Nano). Text does not leave the phone.
- Local summarizer: on all other phones, Dettato uses a built-in method that runs entirely on the device.
- Your own API key (optional, Pro): if you choose to paste your own Google Gemini API key, the transcript of a memo you summarize is sent directly from your phone to Google's Gemini API under your own account and Google's terms. Dettato never receives that data. You can remove the key at any time in Settings, and the “Local only” switch stops Dettato using any AI model for summaries, including your key.
Purchases
Dettato Pro is a one-time purchase processed by Google Play. Google handles payment details; Dettato only receives a purchase token to confirm the entitlement.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record memos.
- Notifications: to show the ongoing recording notification required by Android.
- Internet: used for the Google Play purchase and the optional Play review prompt; for your own API key, if you add one; and, only when you turn “On-device only” off, by your phone's system speech service. Dettato contacts no server of its own, because it has none.
Children
Dettato is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
